I really enjoyed the guide for our tour of the cultural museum. Seeing the 17th century houses and learning about how villages were formed in Norway was super intriguing. It made a lot of sense that Norway wasn’t extremely populated due to it’s farm land and lack of resources, however I didn’t realize that only 3% of Norway is habitable farm land. That really surprised me due to the amount of forests and grassy hills they have. I also found the differences in rich versus poor houses interesting. It’s crazy that we take things like two story houses and glass windows for granted because back in the 17th and 18th century you had to have a lot of money to be able to afford the lumber and import the glass. Lastly, I really enjoyed the paintings in the church. It was really cool to see middle aged paintings in person. That style of art has always been something that’s piqued my interest, and seeing it in person was awesome to experience. Overall the guided tour was awesome except for that hill we had to climb up 😪

Alex: Yeah Grace, I agree! Those villages were so cool and it was definitely the highlight of that trip! I hope you took some pictures of the paintings you saw, as Christina and I didn't see that building until we were just about to leave! Overall the trip was so fun and I'm glad we did it.
ReplyDeleteGrace, I also find it very interesting that 2 floors were considered luxurious, but now are generally the standard.
ReplyDeleteAwesome pictures! I thought Jonathan was a great tour guide too. It was so surprising to hear that only 3% of Norway has farmable land. I also enjoyed seeing the paintings in the church. I thought that they added to the experience and gave a better feel for what it was like back then.
