Norwegian museum of cultural history

Today we had a guided tour at the Norwegian museum. The tour started off at the beginning setesdal I think is the name of it,I thought it was interesting how the building was moved all the way over here from its original location and is still standing. I thought it was interesting how they used their resources well and used bark to keep the roof dry and planted grass and stuff to keep it dry and helps it last longer. I found it interesting how the house was longer so that the animals and families can live in the same building. I also like that the houses were used to show status amongst the people. If they had a two story house they had money and if they had a one story house they didn’t have as much.

  1. Christina I also thought it was really cool that the roofs had birch bark on them. I didn’t know that the bark had oil in it but it makes a lot of sense because of how flammable it is. The grass was also so interesting to learn about since it helped soak up the rain and snow. I also couldn’t believe all the buildings were moved from their original place. That was all so interesting to learn about especially while getting to go in to the buildings!

  2. I also found it interesting and impressive how the buildings were moved from their original location and then reconstructed with all the buildings in the same initial orientation. Especially the church since they noticed that traditionaly it had to be positioned with the front facing the west, so that in the morning when people would be walking to the church, the sun would be rising behind it to make them think of the glory of God.
